Last week, I started us off with a question that focused on how other people are helping us. This week, let's turn it around. Not just in times of emergency like this, but in general, what do you feel your contributions are to your community, and to the well-being of others? What are the gifts that you have to give? This is not intended to start a battle of the humble brags - it's just a chance for you to reflect on the ways you might show kindness, provide moments of joy for others, or offer assistance. It doesn't have to be things you've already done, or have ever been in the habit of doing. Perhaps you're just having a dawning realization that some ability or resource available within you or accessible to you might also be of use to others. These might be new strengths that you're discovering in yourself, and new ways of reaching out. And please don't be so foolish as to think that nothing you can offer will make a difference!

Why Does Your Garden Need Pest Control to Stay Safe?
Gardens are vibrant ecosystems, but pests can threaten their health and beauty. Effective pest control is essential to protect plants, ensure safety, and maintain the aesthetic appeal of your outdoor space. Without proper management, insects like aphids, beetles, or invasive species can damage foliage, stunt growth, or destroy entire crops. By implementing strategic pest control, Texas Landscapes ensures your garden remains a thriving sanctuary for plants and pollinators alike. Regular monitoring and targeted treatments prevent infestations from escalating, preserving the vitality of your greenery.
Pests don’t just harm plants; they can pose risks to human health. Mosquitoes, ticks, and wasps, common in Texas Landscapes service areas, may carry diseases or cause allergic reactions. Professional pest control reduces these risks by addressing breeding grounds and employing safe, tailored solutions. This proactive approach protects your family and pets, allowing you to enjoy your garden without worry. Consistent maintenance also prevents structural damage to outdoor features, as pests like termites can compromise wooden elements, ensuring your landscape remains both functional and visually appealing.
Randomly talk to strangers online on the number 1 random video call website, Uhmegle Cams. An Omegle Alternative.uhmegle com
Bye everyone!!!
Parker and Thomas, I'll get back to you by email with my thoughts about the radio play script. I'm going to head off now and try to soak up a bit of natural light!
I’m not sure how much time I have at this current moment but hopefully we can talk about it next week!
Haven't quite left yet, Do teachers have friends? Oops, been a long time since I was teaching: two careers ago.
Oops I made a typo, I meant to say friends AND teachers!!
It’s also pretty boring with friends of teachers as well.
CB radios? That was before my time, I think. You must be older than you look!
Done for the day folks, again love to hear from the students.bye
Yeah, I miss my Film club/podcast
Another question for the students amongst us: how much time each day are you needing to spend on your course work from school? Is there any room in your lives for some recreational script writing?
It’s alright, a bit tough here and there and I do wish I was back in school, but it’s not too bad for the most part.
Hi Thomas. Need a break? I do!
Thanks Peggy!
Hi Thomas! The average age in this room just feel dramatically!
Lloyd, I read your comment saying that this method of communicating is cumbersome, and I agree. I wonder with the phone group whether we'll need to develop our handles and protocol, like on the old CB radios.
Missed you kiddo, thanks for showing up.
Hello everyone, it’s Thomas here! Sorry I’m a bit late, thought I’d give the online chat a try for the first time! How is everyone?
Colleen, couldn't you have said to her, "Stand back; I'll reach it for you" and then put in her cart, Social distancing doesn't mean we have to be silent!
It's strange, this environment of social distancing where, so many of the ways that I usually express caring or consideration for others, are not possible. Today at the grocery store (my first shop up in a week - I'm following the directives!), there was a woman trying to reach something on the top shelf. Usually, I would have been there, getting it down for her, but there was nothing I could do today except stand back and watch her struggle.
When I am not preparing a meal or cleaning up from one, and not on the computer, I listen to Stingray Music and prefer the one called Nature. There's a peaceful visual image and nature sounds, wind, waves, storms, though the ones on bullfrog and whales talking are rather interesting, too.
I just read an article today written by someone who is usually a voracious reader, but who hasn't been able to immerse in any books in her current state of mind. Relatable! Parker, I wonder how students are supposed to concentrate and get on with their studies with so much going on.
I also find beautiful images soothe the soul right now. Shirley sent me a collection of photographs called "The Tenacity of Trees". I think as Lloyd said, one simple thing we can do for others is to share bits of art and media that we ourselves find enjoyable or therapeutic. On that note - the one TV show that has struck the right chord for me during this time when so much is just not quite what I'm looking for is the CBC show Schitt's Creek. It's the finale tonight, but rather than jumping in at the end, I'd recommend trying it from the start. Even reading the comments on the "GoFundMe" page that the cast launched to raise money for the food banks will show you how this show has touched a lot of lives.
Can you tell us a bit about online learning?
Colleen, I hope that phone/audio method you said you are working on, actually works out, We need an improvement on this format.
Parker, looks like you are the only student with us, appreciate that, keep up the
input.
Is Parker still here?
Having no talent for music or writing I love being able to comment and love others input.
The only thing I can hear in my apartment is when somebody is noisily putting something down the garbage chute, Which reminds me, it got plugged up yesterday, with too much unwanted stuff. Took Mike a very long time to clear it out. It reminds me the garbage on the street on Toronto as shown of TV today. Peopee seemed to be discarding used gloves, and masks. Rather than finding a barrel or taking them home to throw away. Some folks are NOT THINKING.
One problem with the layout of this forum is that messages quickly get buried. Parker, I don't know if you saw that Lloyd asked how school is going. I'm also curious to hear how students are finding the online delivery.
The children for whom I'm writing the story came to Kitchener as refugees from Syria, after having been displaced and spending time in a refugee camp. This is not the first, or even the biggest ordeal they've faced in their young lives.
Lloyd baratone?
Lloyd, you can at least sing in the shower and let your neighbours listen through the walls!
My sister, who's an elementary school teacher in B.C., has made me aware of just how wonderful young children have been in coping (so far) with all of the disruptions that this pandemic has caused in their lives. I think we adults really need to find ways to let them know that everything's going to be all right. And to believe it ourselves. So, one thing we can do for others is to maintain positive outlooks, even when to do so seems to defy realistic thinking. Children don't need realistic right now. They need reassuring.
It looks like the Spring Velvetones concert will be in September, but no says what year.
Hi, Colleen, have no musical talent, love to hear all everyone had to offer
But, my big creative undertaking so far has been to begin writing a children's story in instalments for some special children in my life. They are the main characters of the story, and it is complete imaginative escapism.
On doing a lot more contacting with family and friends. My "update" blog has garnered several responses from Wisconsin to Florida to Maine.
Hi Peggy!
In answer to the question that I posed today, one of the things some people have been doing has been to post musical performances to provide a break from the nonstop stream of negative news. These definitely give me a few minutes of relief. So, I've been thinking that I have to work up a few of my piano pieces to send, at least to my parents, to let them know that all of those piano lessons really did count for something!
Lloyd good to see you up and running,so to speak
This is the first time I have had to sign in to access the site. Good thing I did that the first time I was here.
I'm in now. I said I try to keep you all amused with some off-beat humor to liven up your maybe down spirits
I already sent a response which the website declined to post.
Hi Folks, anybody here?
